As a quick tour of our history, Xela-Aid was founded in 1992 by
Leslie C. Baer with Fr. Peter Hickman and Robert Rook of St. Matthew
Old Catholic Community, in
Orange,
California.
Baer was then a journalist and coordinator for a Southern
California-based group of Mother Teresa's Co-Workers of Charity.
Peter Hickman is Founder of the thriving
St. Matthew
Community in Orange, California, and is now a bishop in the Old
Catholic Church; and Bob Rook, a technology specialist and long-time
humanitarian activist continues as a member of t he St. Matthew
community.
Joyce
Fournier, president of Xela Aid 2002-2005, a health services professional with a distinguished career
in nursing and design and implementation of companion medicine
programs, founded with Amalia Garcia the Nueva Alianza Weaving and
Midwives' Cooperative [August, 1996]. Garcia, and Luis Enrique de Leon, both of
Guatemala, joined the organization in 1994 and 1993, respectively,
as the organization's founding directors in Guatemala. They continue
to facilitate Xela Aid's activities in Guatemala as active directors
with Xela Aid and as president (de Leon) and vice president (Garcia)
of Association Xela Aid,
a sister organization legally
incorporated Guatemala.
