Projects: Weaving Cooperative

Weaving Cooperative

"Cooperativo Tesoros del Corazon" was formed in the summer of 2010 under the leadership of Luciana Vasquez, Luis Enrique de Leon, Kelsey Chesterfield and Kathy Logan. More information on this exciting new associated business--including products for sale on Xela Aid's website--will be coming soon.

Looking Back: Xela Aid's first weavers and midwives cooperative, Nueva Alianza, was formed in 1999. It consisted of about 40 weavers in the village of San Martin Chiquito. For eight years, Xela Aid supported the women through sales of their weavings in the United States. Xela Aid provided training and equipment (including sewing machines) to assist the group. Nueva Alianza disbanded in 2007, with Xela Aid in search of coordinators who may wish to shepherd the project.
