Heidy is 10 years old and currently in 4th grade in the Toj Mech school in Toj Mech village, San Martin Sacatepequez. Heidy lives with her maternal grandfather and is cared for by her aunt who is just 22 years old. Heidy’s grandfather and uncle are both agricultural workers who grow and sell vegetables locally. She also has two half siblings. During the pandemic she is attending school in person twice a week and is given homework to complete during the other school days. She enjoys math lessons at school, listening to Gospel music and reading, especially the story of The Three Little Pigs. Heidy and her aunt attend church weekly and when she is not doing her schoolwork she helps with the housework, plays with her dolls and cares for the turkeys and chickens that she has at home. Her favorite time of year is the rainy season because she said it was a lot of fun. Heidy has been part of the Xela Aid Study Center program since her first year of Elementary School. Now she needs a sponsor to continue her studies and work towards the medical career that she dreams of.
