Francisca is 24 years old and has qualified as an elementary school teacher. She has begun studying for a bachelor’s degree in education administration at the University of San Carlos de Guatemala. She decided to pursue this degree because she wants to have wider access to knowledge about educational advances and bring new techniques to help the children in the Xela community. It is a 2-year course that she studies on Saturdays. So far, her favorite subject has been cultural diversity. She enjoys the practical aspect of teaching and is getting more used to managing the theoretical content of the course. At home she helps her nieces with their homework. She found it hard to leave her students when she left her previous teaching job, but we are delighted that she is one of our trainees in the Montessori program at Xela Aid, working with our students every day while learning the techniques of this method.
