Tania is 9 years old and the youngest of three children in her family. Her older sister is now married, but her brother passed away. She is now in her 3rd year of Elementary school in her village, Aldea la Cumbre. Unfortunately, Tania was diagnosed with leukemia when she was 7 and was immediately referred to the cancer center in Guatemala City. She receives chemotherapy every 8 days. Although she is stable at the moment, she is currently under close observation because she is not considered cancer free yet. Although the family has its own house, the living conditions are not good for a young leukemia patient and this may delay or hinder her recovery. Tania is passionate about painting. She received art therapy during her time in the hospital and this has helped her to deal with the challenges that the disease presents to her. A brave young student trying to move forward despite everything.
