Yeimy G.

Yeimy is 21 years old and in her third year of nursing studies at Galileo University in Quetzaltenango. She lives with her parents and siblings. All five members of the family work and spend time with each other at the weekends. Yeimy has great admiration for all of them because they have overcome many obstacles in their lives. At the end of 2023, she was able to complete the required nursing internships and found the experience of being in completely new medical settings very exciting. If she had the opportunity, Yeimy would like to learn English and the local indigenous language Mam because many job opportunities outside of her hometown of San Martin are available to fluent speakers of both. She is passionate about greater access to healthcare and for it to be less expensive. In the future she sees herself as a graduate nurse working in a hospital and being able to contribute financially to her family’s standard of living.
