Sucely is 15 and she has a younger brother who is 2 years old. She lives with 11 other family members in her grandmother’s house in Aldea Santa Ines. The family is mainly supported by her grandfather who buys and sells land, but everyone is expected to generate income to help pay for the family’s expenses. Her single mother Odilia (31) has a small grocery shop, but recently she has fallen very ill and finds it difficult to work. Sucely is in her first year of High School at the San Juan Bautista school in San Juan Ostuncalco. Her grandfather (who is diabetic) was ill during 2020 so life has been very hard during the pandemic. However, Sucely has taken advantage of the time at home to learn to sew from her aunt. Although she enjoyed this new skill enormously, her goal is to study hard to become an accountant, get a job and help her family improve their prospects. The family likes to play soccer together which is fun. Sucely also likes animals and has a cat and a dog called Simba. She feels that she is a strong person who will fight for what she wants, no matter how hard the challenge may be.
